Fashion, Exercise, Hang out!

Being that it's Blogger Bash Week, I decided to take this opportunity for you readers to get to know more about me. No lists, no questions, just purely 100% me.

Lately I have been house-sitting for a co-worker of my moms, mainly due to the fact that I have been fruitless in my job hunt, but despite this daunting fact, house-sitting has been a blast! Basically all I have to do is hang out with the sweetest kitties in the world, clean up, and feed them with the awesome perks of my employer living next to a downtown shopping area and having TiVo. Coming from a household where having cable is taboo, let's just say I've been in heaven! Today, I decided to take a stroll downtown and check out Border's bookstore. Let it be known now that ever since I was able to read I have been hooked on books. However, my taste has developed greatly from my elementary school days where all I read were books by Tamora Pierce. Right now I'm finishing up The Carrie Diaries, a book about Carrie Bradshaw pre-Sex and the City, and then will read Eat, Pray, Love. Upon my arrival at Borders, I was already on a mission, to read Gossip Girl stylist Eric Daman's You Know You Want It. I have been coveting this book ever since it's release but unfortunately could not find it in a local bookstore so I was really excited when I found out Border's had it. In the hour that I spent in that store, I totally devoured that book. I love reading fashion-related books because they teach me about what I'm interested in which is really important for me for when I'm ready to choose a career. This book teaches you about what to wear for your body type, how to own your style, and how to take fashion risks. I loved how Daman showed reader's how to find and define their personal style. For example, I'm a bohemian chic with a love for the classic and dramatic (think Nicole Richie meets Lauren Conrad) but the way I dress tends to resemble more of a relaxed look usually because I'm always on the go. Reading this book, I was inspired to own my style and the style I aspire to have; which will help me when it's finally time to shop for fall clothes. I would highly reccommend this book to any aspiring fashionista trying to find her niche. Click here! Also at Border's I managed to get my hands on a couple of international magazines. I go completely nuts for magazines, no joke! I don't subscribe to all of them, which would be wise, but I always end up buying an InStyle, Elle, or Harper's Bazaar whenever I'm in the store. So I was really happy when I found British Vogue at Borders. I love looking at other countries fashions and seeing how the stylists compile season's trends. It's so interesting and a great reference for my fashion career aspirations. But I'm not all books! Housesitting has also been a place where I can work it out. So when I got back from reading I went to the house to pop in Hip Hop Abs. Have any of you tried it? Let's just say I didn't know that I could ever feel that much pain in my abs. Oh. My. Goodness! It was intense but I was really proud of myself. You see this summer I have been focusing on..well myself and just figuring out what I like to do. So I've been trying all kinds of exercises, blogging a ton, and hanging out with my friends and fam! I guess it's kind of my own version of Eat, Pray, Love. Fashion, Exercise, Hangout lol! I used to dance, play soccer, and volleyball so exercising for me is not really about weight, although I would kill for Audrina Patridge's body, but more about feeling healthy and fit so it felt good to do the exercises. The next video I'm going to try is Leandro's Supermodel Slimdown, apparently it transformed Alessandra Ambrosio's bootie. I'll make sure to tell you how it goes! Anyways it's family bonding night so I have to go but I'd love to know what you guys think of me posting like this. I will still keep posting about my inspirations in fashion and getting ready for college but I also want to include stuff about myself. So let me know in my comment box or HERE on my Formspring!

Blog Bash

Introduction: I'm HC, otherwise known as the Haute Californian, and I'm an 18 year old Californian who is a sophomore in college. In college I'm studying Apparel Production & Merchandising in hopes to one day be a stylist and an editor of a fashion magazine. Growing up I had several interests and went through various phases. I danced for a couple of years, did soccer for a year, played the flute for four and a half years; however, my one constant love was always fashion. Whether it was altering my clothes, sketching designs, or reading fashion magazines, fashion has always been a prevalent part of my life. In fact, whenever my friends were in a clothing bind or needed a shopping buddy I was always the first one they would call! So when I started applying to colleges I knew that I wanted to go somewhere where the action was, that wasn't too far away from home, that also had a fashion major and a year later here I am!

1.) Why do you blog?

I blog because I love having a voice. Sharing my opinions with others and learning about other people's points of view gives me such an energy that no other form of communication could suffice. I love knowing that there are others who share my love for the fashion industry and blogging :)

2.) What do you blog about?

I tend to blog about my personal style, runway shows, collections I covet, and celebrities whose style I adore; so essentially I blog about style. However, I would not consider myself limited to it. I also love hearing about what others like to see in my blogs (i.e. what to wear on the first day of school) which is why I have my Formspring!. Seriously, let me know what you guys think! The next post could be about you :)

3.) What do you find to be the biggest reward you get from blogging?

The biggest reward from blogging is connecting with my readers and other bloggers. Blogging is such a huge network and it's always the best when you get other people's opinions about what you are doing or just any sort of acknowledgement, it makes it all worth it!

4.) How long have you been blogging?

Well I have had blogs in the past but that was kind of like when I was younger and dumber. I blogged about the randomest things and I'm pretty sure I wasn't being one hundred percent me, I'm surprised people read my stuff back then haha! But when I started Haute Californian in late June I knew that I was going to give it my all and be completely real and have been hooked ever since :)

5.) Let's hear the story behind your blog title! :)

The Haute Californian. Um I kind of just wanted something that told people that I would be blogging about fashion so I put haute and I consider myself pretty All-Cal because I was born in SoCal moved to NorCal and now I got to school in SoCal so I was like why not? And I know Haute means high but I thought it was a cute play on words because Haute and hot sound the same, and California is very hot lol. It was cute at the time but explaining it sounds silly haha.

Christmas in July.

The middle of July is like Christmas for crazy shopaholics like myself. This is the start of summer clothing discounts and the replenishment of stores with fresh new fall clothes. I can hardly contain my excitement as brands and stores begin to release their new catalogs displaying what they are getting in stock cold seasons. And although the weather here still ranges from an intense burning heat to a cool breeze, I can't help but imagine myself in a beautiful fall wardrobe. Setting complete with colorful and crispy leaves and blustery evenings. So you can only imagine how ecstatic I was when I found that Forever 21 had already began to put in some of their fall items yesterday. In fact, thanks to Forever I was able to cross #1 and #4 off of my Fall Wishlist!. I also got a really cute navy dress with an open back, it's perfect because I usually am not able to wear fall clothes until after November because I got to school in southern California.

Sorry for the horrible photos! It's the best I can do with my web cam. Anyways I'm very excited to wear these pieces, especially the gray sweater a la
Stella McCartney! I've already started looking at celebrity candids to get ideas for what I can wear with my items! So tell me what have you guys scored during Summer Sales/Fall Premiere shopping?

Click, Click, Snap!

Fun fact about me? I have this crazy obsession with candid photos and Disney Channel stars. Put the two together and you have this amazing scrapbook of all things stylish and Disney. There is something about their fast-paced lifestyles captured in photos that is totally intriguing to me. And although some have their scandals and Miley Cyrus can get a little too chollalicious, her style is delicious and her performances are vicious in a way that makes girls want to take notes. So some of them may not be role models but they are definitely style icons. Another reason to be completely in love with Disney girls? Two words: Zac Efron. Watch out Vanessa (and Miley) I'm coming after your man!

Runway to HC Way

Hey bloggers. I thought that since I already jumped the gun on fall fashion with my fall wishlist I thought I'd do a little runway to HC way for this post. Basically just giving me an excuse to raid my closet and pose like a fool in front of my web cam. Let me know what you guys think :)

Runway: Burberry Fall 2010 - Military
burberry.

HC Way: I admit my approach to this trend is a little reminiscent of the safari chic that tended to be prominent in the S/S runways but I thought the jacket and boots worked perfectly for that militaristic edge Burberry showed at Fashion Week.

Runway: Stella McCartney Fall 2010 - Cozy Luxestella mccartney.
HC Way: I was completely in love with Ms. McCartney's amazing luxe but comfortable looking pieces on the runway and decided to imitate it with my favorite sweaters. I'm loving the layered looks for fall but I'm not going to lie I was definitely dying of heat when I tried on this ensemble.

Runway: Prada Fall 2010 - Nerdy Chic
prada.

HC Way: I for one am completely in love with Ugly Betty so a chance to emulate Nerdy Chic was kind of like a dream come true. I loved Prada's spin on the sexy nerd by making her from the 50s. I'd kill for a pair of those wing-tipped glasses but for now I'll just make do with my lens free wayfarers :)

What were your fave trends from the fall runway shows?

Questions, comments, concerns? Tips for future posts?

Fall Wishlist.

So I know it's not fall yet, actually it's not even August yet, but I just get so excited for back to school shopping that I can't help but make a list. My goal for next year is to dress to impress. I've always been known as the fashion forward chic in my group of friends at home but at school I'm just known as the fashion major. With all of my 8am classes last year I barely had time to do make-up let alone dress cute. So for this school year when people look at me I want them to know what my major is.
Wishlist1. Black blazer - Need I provide a reason? Black blazers are the epitome of chic!
2. Sequined Jacket - They are so dressy and perfect for adding glamour to anyoutfit.hooded jacket3. Hooded Leather Jacket - I've wanted one since ever since I can remember, this year I'm taking the risk. They just exude the word cool.4. Cozy Grey Sweater - Perfect for those rainy days, I'm loving them over the lace leggings!
Leather Skirt
5. Leather Mini - Ever since I set eyes on Whitney Port in a leather skirt I've been completely in love!
6. Knee High Boots - They are just a classic staple that I have to have.
animal print bag
7. Animal Print Bag - Everyone who knows me knows that I'm completely obsessed with cheetah and leopard prints, this bag is just a necessity.
8. Lace Leggings - Yet again, blame it on Whitney Port's fall collection. I'm loving the subtly sexy look of these leggings.
9. Black Pumps - Another classic staple that I need because even at 5' 11" sometimes a girls just got to wear heels.
10. Cheetah Print Flats - Animal print. Flats. So hot! Need I say more?
Oxfords
11. Sequined Oxfords - Oxfords are just amazing and I love me a sequin.
